Hotel Schwarz Alm Zwettl
Welcome to the oasis of peace in the Waldviertel!
From alpine hut to 4 star hotel
Even over 100 years ago, summer holidaymakers loved to stroll up to the Schwarz Alm – a small alpine hut surrounded by a large meadow. Today it is no different: the Schwarz Alm Zwettl is considered an oasis of peace in the heart of the Waldviertel. Located in a wonderfully tranquil forest clearing just outside the brewing town of Zwettl, the rest & pleasure hotel offers a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside.
- In the 1930s, the mountain hut was leased by the German Alpine Association. It was managed at the weekends.
- In 1949, the Schwarz Alm was taken over by the Friends of Nature and continued to be run as a snack stop at weekends.
- 1951 also saw the arrival of skiing on the Alm, where there was a “he” and a “she” race.
- In 1952, a 400 metre-long power cable was laid from the Kamptal power station to the Alm.
- A stable building was erected in 1968, followed by a residential building and a guest house in 1969.
- In 1980 the Alm was returned to the family by Mr Kom. Rat Dipl. Braumeister Karl Schwarz returned it to family ownership
- In 1990, the inn was extended to include the current hotel and leisure area
- In 2006 / 2007, a new building was erected for the “AlmSPA” wellness oasis.
- The rooms were renovated in 2008.
- In 2010, the Alm was taken over as the fourth IPP hotel.
- In winter 2015 / 2016, the Schwarz Alm was completely renovated and expanded with 10 new premium rooms and a heated indoor pool.
- In 2022, the kitchen was completely renovated and our “Hopfengarten” seminar break area was redesigned.
Like the entire hotel, the 48 bright rooms with balcony or terrace were completely renovated in winter 2016 and reflect the colours of nature.
Thanks to its bright and light-flooded design, our AlmSPA offers a fantastic view of the Waldviertel natural landscape. You will be spoilt with a heated indoor pool, natural swimming biotope, 2 saunas, 2 steam baths, relaxation rooms, fitness & infrared cabin.
Enjoy the culinary delights of the “New Waldviertel Cuisine” – deliberately regional, authentic and newly refined. The Waldviertel delicatessen has a lot to offer. Poppy seeds, carp, potatoes, game and herbs represent the archaic basic products of the region. The traditional is combined with new inspiration.
The incomparably peaceful location in the large forest clearing and the Waldviertel hospitality with its culinary specialities make the Schwarz Alm Zwettl a popular destination.
